Petrykivka painting

Petrykivka painting is a traditional Ukrainian decorative painting style, originating from the village of Petrykivka, where it still lives today. These ornaments were used to decorate furniture, household belongings, stoves, chimneys and even the walls of houses. Almost everyone in this Ukrainian village of the Dnipropetrovsk region was able to draw these strange patterns. These are petals and leaves, which in skilful hands turned into unexpected flowers, clusters of guelder rose, grapes, fairy birds and even people. Once upon a time, every house in Petrykivka was decorated with this painting. They even said: “It’s beautiful in this village, like in a church.” And this is true, because Petrykivka painting can be used for interior decoration even today.
